DPR IAN Announces New EP “Dear Insanity…” and Lead Single “Peanut Butter & Tears”
Visionary musician DPR IAN returns with his most innovative work yet.
Renowned Korean-Australian artist DPR IAN is currently experiencing a career high.
His new single “Peanut Butter & Tears” dropped on Friday, which serves as the title track for his forthcoming EP “Dear Insanity…” due October 6th. “Peanut Butter & Tears” follows the hugely successful debut album “Moodswings In This Order”, which earned him a spot on Billboard and highly sought-after sets at major music festivals.
Along with writing and producing the track, IAN directed the music video that accompanies “Peanut Butter & Tears”. The music video, which plays like a deranged sci-fi movie, depicts MITO, an alter ego created by IAN. MITO was first introduced to fans with IAN’s smash debut album “Moodswings In To Order” and his debut EP “Moodswings In This Order”, both of which use MITO as an acronym. IAN’s music is seen through the troubled, misunderstood eyes of MITO, all of which “Dear Insanity…” will tell the story of.
"‘Peanut Butter & Tears’ portrays the fading playfulness of our youth, as we embark on a bittersweet journey into adulthood,” shares IAN. “But before MITO, there was Insanity. The “Dear Insanity…” EP is the prequel story to MITO’s creator, ‘Mr. Insanity.’ This EP follows MITO on his journey to and throughout the dreamlike realm known as ‘The Other Side.’ As he traverses through The Other Side, IAN slowly begins to lose his sanity bit by bit, thus fully turning into new alter ego ‘Mr. Insanity’ at the story’s climax.”
IAN’s wry lyrics, which recall the messy fears of childhood, are often what makes him such a memorable artist, as they do here. “That my tooth's been wigglin' for years/ My peanut butter and your tears,” IAN sings in the cathartic chorus from MITO’s point of view. “Oh, why the sad face, dear?/ I can't control all of my fears.”
IAN is currently making the rounds at North American music festivals with his friend DPR LIVE, playing both Head in the Clouds and Lollapalooza last weekend. His stage show, like the video for “Peanut Butter and Tears”, displays IAN’s ambitions as an artist. The 32-year-old Korean-Australian is the chief director and editor of Dream Project Regime (DPR), a collective based in Seoul, South Korea that produces multi-disciplinary work with a diverse roster of artists. His visionary work, including DPR LIVE’s iconic “Summer Tights” video, and his wild imagination have earned him respect as one of the most innovative artists working currently.
