South Korea’s Wunderkind SHAUN Announces “On the Road” Tour

Unbound Entertainment Group

Korean-singer songwriter SHAUN will tour North America for the first time this Spring.

SHAUN’s “On the Road” tour, produced by Unbound Entertainment Group and Modo Live, will begin April 14th in Los Angeles and visit nine stops across the United States and Canada, including stops in San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle, Toronto and a closing date in Chicago (April 24)l. Tickets are on sale now.

“SHAUN’s “On The Road” tour is a testament to his love and promises to his fans to always give them the best quality and satisfaction in his music,” Unbound Entertainment Group said in a press statement.

SHAUN broke through into unexpected fame in 2018 with the smash hit “Way Back Home”. “The new No. 1 single on the K-pop chart in Korea is not your ordinary K-pop track,” a story in Billboard magazine stated in July 2018. “A DJ/producer and keyboardist of the indie rock band THE KOXX named SHAUN is charting over K-pop super groups such as TWICE, BLACKPINK — and even BTS.” In the five years since it’s release, remix featuring Connor Maynard has racked up over 304 million listens on Spotify, while SHAUN alone pulls in over 3 million monthly streams. It’s an incredible feat, especially for an artist who still manages to fly under the radar.

Before SHAUN was a singer, he was shaping the sound of third generation K-Pop. He’s worked on some of the most prolific projects for groups as a producer, like SM Entertainment’s SHINee, EXO, and f(x). For SHINee and f(x), in particular, SHAUN’s work shifted the needle at pivotal moments in their careers. His work on SHINee’s “The Story of Light” and f(x)’s “4 Walls” engineered new sounds for both groups. In 2015, the same year SHAUN added the track “Papi” to “4 Walls”, he debuted as a soloist with the single “Falling Into”, but he would reach worldwide fame three years later with “Way Back Home”.

Yet almost as quickly as SHAUN reached peak fame in music, he left for mandatory military conscription. Yet SHAUN’s popularity held firm. In 2020, he was named one of the most streamed K-Pop acts for  the second year in a row on SpotifyWrapped – despite being on hiatus for nearly two years. Yet SHAUN’s discography goes deeper than “Way Back Home”.

My favorite EP of his, An-yeong, pulsates with the single “Bad Habits” and b-side, “Terminal”. Inside each song is an immediacy to intimacy both in how personal the lyrics are and how quickly the music strikes an emotional chord when I listen to it. SHAUN released two short, but masterful, projects last year, Omnibus Part 1 and 2. Both releases prove that even with international recognition, SHAUN is continuing to mine a sound that is uniquely his won. If you want a song that’s so satisfying it could be injected into your bloodstream, try “Shooting Star” from Omnibus Part 2.

“My journey always went beyond the direction I had envisioned and took me to an unexpected place, but I have very much enjoyed the trip thus far,” SHAUN told PopWrapped in 2021.” I never wanted to be a singer that everyone knows. However, I look at it like I have been doing things that musicians do like practicing, finding new music, and making new music.”

You can purchase tickets to a show for “On the Road” here. Look for my recap of his New York concert in April!
